“This summer, I showed my 3-year-old niece My Neighbor Totoro, a film by Hayao Miyazaki. It was the first time she had ever seen it, and she was completely captivated by the screen.
Having grown up with Miyazaki’s films, I am still amazed by his artistry. His work is filled with sensory elements, sensations that have resonated with me for so long. This led me to reflect: if I could take up the mantle and pass it on through my own experience to the next generation through photography, what would that look like?
This question inspired my photographic theme this summer; I created images of my hometown in Japan that I intend to share with my niece. I hope to show her these photos again when she is 33, my age now.”
