ETERNAL ECHOES
Tokio Okada

«This summer, I showed my 3-year-old niece My Neighbor Totoro, a film by Hayao Miyazaki. It was her first time watching it, and she was completely captivated by the screen. Having grown up with Miyazaki's films, I am always amazed by his artistry. His work is filled with sensory elements, sensations that have resonated with me for so long.
This got me thinking: if I could take his cue and pass it on through my own experience to the next generation through photography, what would that look like?
This question inspired my photography theme. I created images of my hometown in Japan that I intend to share with my niece. I hope to show her these photos again when she turns 33, my age today.»

Bio

Eternal Echoes is the first book by Paris-based Japanese photographer Tokio Okada. Okada seeks sensoriality in the vernacular of the elements. Our senses are stimulated by the mere sight of his images; we experience rain, wind, and even the warmth of the sun. For his first book, the photographer explores the place where he grew up and tells the story of contemporary Japanese youth through poetic minimalism.
